How to Design and Organize Your Office Space for an Optimized Workflow
Believe it or not, your work area plays a critical role in ensuring that you are efficient, productive, and motivated in what you do. From the overall design to the functionality, your office space should allow you to be at your very best at work.
Welcome Craig, who is our guest blogger who is going to talk about how to design and organise your office space for optimised workflow!
To make sure that you get the most out of your allotted work area, it is important that you understand the different factors to be considered when choosing an office design as well as the other ways to make sure that your office space keeps you productive and motivated.
Define Office Design Influencers
Office design is considered good if it is created based on three main factors: purpose, layout, and aesthetics. These design influencers not only provide guidance when deciding on how your workspace will look but also contribute to how to maximize the floor area for an optimized workflow.
1. Purpose
Like any other project, you should begin creating your office design based on what you intend to do in the space. Will it be used for meetings or conferences with clients and other employees or will it serve as a production area for your business? Will there be more than one person working in the space?
Establishing the purpose of the workspace will help you decide what furniture and equipment will be brought in. It will also ensure that you have ample space to walk (or run, if needed) based on how much you expect to move around.
2. Layout
The layout is the second most important consideration when designing an office. You should always keep the purpose of the space in mind while ensuring that everything—from the smallest tool to the largest furniture—can be used to its full potential. This means nothing should block the door to a file cabinet and chairs. Tables should also be put in an area in a way that will allow the people using them to move freely.
3. Aesthetics
Last, but certainly not the least, is the overall appeal of the office. The aesthetics of your office not only ensures that clients who visit it are impressed. They also keep employees interested and on task. In fact, a study revealed that color plays a big role in keeping workers motivated at the office.
It is said that darker colors may cause drowsiness, so make sure you choose a lighter hue for your office. Yellow is highly recommended because of its positive effects on productivity and motivation. However, you should still mix and match as a single-color palette may not be invigorating enough.
Purge and Declutter
After deciding on a design, your next goal is to make sure that everything you plan to put into your newly designed office is useful to you at work. This means you have to purge items that you don’t use or those which have a similar function as another item and declutter everything else.
To maximize the use of your office space, you must make sure that it is free of unnecessary items. Doing this is also a great way to see how much available space you have for more functional items like longer meeting tables or additional desks to accommodate more equipment or people.
If you’re not a fan of decluttering and purging, it may be daunting to achieve this tip on your own. Fortunately, there are professionals who offer decluttering services at very affordable costs and would be happy to help you with it.
Organize
After getting rid of unnecessary items on your inventory, you must also make it a point to organize the remaining stuff you have for your workspace. This is because having piles items on your desk can incite the feeling of fatigue.
To organize properly, designate areas to store items based on their function or use. Make sure wires are not tangling and that all small items can be accessed without the need to feel like finding a needle in a haystack.
If you have too many important items that cannot be let go but won’t fit into your office, you should consider putting them away temporarily with the help of firms offering office storage services.
Get Motivated by an Optimized Office Space
Making the best use of your office space is necessary to optimize workflow. To achieve this, you must understand the purpose of the area and create an office design that has a layout and aesthetic with that very same purpose in mind.
